Hand Therapy in Highton, Geelong

Fresh Start Physiotherapy offers Hand Therapy & Custom Splinting

Hand Therapy incorporates the rehabilitation of the fingers and thumb, hand, wrist and elbow.

During the initial consultation, a complete evaluation of your hand is conducted to determine the source of your difficulty. We then discuss your goals for your rehabilitation before we provide you with information on the subject matter and implement an evidence-based treatment plan. This would include prescribing exercises and make recommendations for steps to continue with at home. Sometimes, your management may involve a custom-made splint or provision of a brace, if an area requires immobilisation or protection for a time.

At the clinic, Hand Therapy is used to treat and manage:

  • Fractures, dislocations and sprains;
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome / Release;
  • Sports injuries;
  • Arthritis;
  • Thumb pain;
  • Tennis Elbow;
  • DeQuervain’s Tenosynovitis;
  • Chronic pain conditions including CRPS;
  • Pre and Post-operative clients requiring rehabilitation;
  • Hand and wrist trauma;
  • Tendinopathies / tendinitis;
  • Golfer’s Elbow
  • Amputations;
  • Crush Injuries;
  • Boutonnière Deformity;
  • Trigger finger / thumb;
  • Dupuytren’s contractures;
  • Mallet Injuries; and
  • Scar management

We also offer Custom Splints for our clients who require immobilisation, stabilisation or protection of the fingers, thumb, hand and wrist. Our splints are made from a high quality thermoplastic material and are custom moulded to our clients to achieve the best position for each presentation. The splints are made during your consultation and will be available for you to take home and use immediately as recommended by your Hand Physiotherapist.

If you need a caring professional to evaluate your hand and wrist complaint or to be fitted with a custom-made splint, contact Sophie to discuss the benefits of Hand Therapy.
