The KNEE Program is an on court warm up Program designed to enhance movement efficiency and prevent injury.
Netball is the number 1 team-based sport in Australia for women and girls with over 1.2 million participants. ACL injuries account for over 30% of the injuries sustained by netballers each year. Seventy-five percent of injuries sustained in netball are attributed to the knee and ankle.
The mechanisms of injury to the ACL in netball that have been identified are:
- Landing (46%)
- Running (18%)
- Collision (15%)
- Fall (8%)
- Slip/trip (7%)
From this data, it has been identified that landing technique is critical in the prevention of ACL injuries.
The KNEE Program was initially design by Australian Diamonds’ Physiotherapist in collaboration with research partners in response to the high incidence of ACL injuries sustained in Netball. The program is primarily established as a Knee injury prevention for netballers to enhance performance and extend play.
The program is a specifically tailored on-court warm up program which has the potential to improve individuals’ playing performance by improving:
- Landing technique
- Change of direction
Fresh Start Physiotherapy is a nationally endorsed provider of this program, which targets three specific player groups:
- Recreational netballers
- Elite level athletes
The Program offers different exercises tailored to match the predicted capabilities of each group.
