Management of the Hand, Wrist & Digits

We use our hands and wrists every day for thousands of tasks and often these are done without thinking. When something goes wrong with them, we instantly feel the impact it has on our function and independence and the symptoms can be quite debilitating and frustrating.

As with all aspects of injury management, the right treatment can only begin after a correct diagnosis. Pain in the hand and wrist can commonly be attributed to a number of sources including; muscular pain, arthritic joints, tendon or joint injuries. However, sometimes the source may come from your neck, shoulder, elbow or elsewhere that can result in your hand exhibiting the symptoms.

Common sources of pain, discomfort or decreased function of your hand and wrist and thumb and fingers can include:

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome;
  • Arthritis;
  • Fractures and dislocations;
  • Trigger finger & Trigger thumb;
  • Mallet injuries;
  • Boutonnière Deformity;
  • Strains and sprains;
  • Inflammation;
  • Crush injuries;
  • Overuse, RSI – Repetitive Strain Injury/ OOS – Occupational Overuse Syndrome;
  • Cramps;
  • Post-Surgical scarring
  • Dupuytren’s contractures
  • Sporting injuries
  • Hand and Wrist trauma
  • Amputations
  • Tendinopathies / Tendinitis
  • Complex Regional Pain Syndrome
  • DeQuervain’s tenosynovitis

When needed, we can also custom make you a splint for your finger, thumb, hand or wrist, if your area of concern requires immobilisation, protection, stability or rest. Your splint will be made during your consultation, so you are able to use it immediately.
